We all know the market is flooded with digital cameras of every variety, however the Pentax K5 DSLR has earned the notice it has received. There seems to be a baseline of common features offered by any reasonable digital camera. But that is where the commonalities stop because it becomes a matter of quality and other concerns. For the stronger players, they take technology and try to squeeze every last ounce out of it.

But for many, they may not need the highest end camera, but there are still excellent cameras that cost much less. Look at your needs, budget and simply proceed from that starting point.

The K5 represents a strong effort by Pentax to fulfill the demands placed on the by the camera market. The world is full of unique photo opportunities, and addressing those challenges is what the new features is all about. Let’s talk about auto-focus because this is an important area for many photographers. Additionally, there are other improvements that work in concert such as faster and higher performing low light level compensation and processing ability. That area plus others have been commented on by new users of the Pentax K5.

Of course you can try to go beyond what any camera can reasonably do. The K5 has what Pentax calls, Live View shooting, and this is made possible only due to processing improvements. Pentax included a design for new sensing abilities for imaging in the K5. Your use of the auto-focus mode will demonstrate the effectiveness of these upgrades previously mentioned. However, for you and everybody else, the ability to easily capture the images you want that look terrific is most important. Consistently producing crisp and clear images regardless of manual or auto mode will always be possible.

According to some, they have had experiences with under-exposure in this camera. However, whether or not just a tiny bit more than a quarter of an f-stop is a huge issue depends on what you are trying to do. The capability for lower ISO applications does excel over other popular models. If you do a lot of work in low light settings, you will find the K5 is able to focus faster and with increased precision. The video, unfortunately, does not have auto-focus capability.

You will find solid advances in technology and use of software programming with the Pentax K5. However, do not get nervous about the programming as the interface is intuitive. The novice photographer will have a lot of fun with the K5. The K5 is complex but easy to use, and that is really the best part about it. It would be a shame to have a camera like this and not use all the features and functions available.
